PR Fined $950 For Smuggling
Gasoline

Begawan - A 35-year-old Permanent Resident was fined $950 or a
month's jail in default for conveying 13 plastic containers of Regular
gasoline.
Omar bin Hj Abu Bakar pleaded guilty
to conveying the undeclared gasoline equivalent to 263.88 litres in
his car at Ujung Jalan, Sungai Pandaruan in Temburong on March 10.

Prosecuting Officer, told the court that a group of Customs Preventive
personnel tried to apprehend the defendant when he was about to board
a ferry.
However, the defendant attempted to
escape by reversing his car and driving away in the opposite
direction.
He was later successfully arrested.
Customs personnel, who were acting on
a tip-off, detained the defendant for further investigation.
Omar revealed that he had bought the
gasoline for $95 from a petrol station in Bangar, Temburong for his
relatives in Limbang, who had promised him RM$5 for the help.
The defendant also admitted that this
was his third time doing so in March this year.
The gasoline was forfeited to the
state. --
