By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI), one of the Sultanate's oldest business organisations, is expected to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) next April 9 to elect a fresh mandate.

It will be held in the conference room at its office of Block D, No. 1, Beribi Industrial Complex, Gadong around 9am.

Its previous elections had never failed to create interest among the Malay business community that looks up to the chamber as its guardian.

The upcoming event looks like it will be an explosive one as some candidates have been actively campaigning.

BMCCI has always commanded high regards and respects as its members include successful businessmen like Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Abd Hapitz Pehin Laksamana Hj Abd Razak, Hj Razali Hj Johari, Dr Hj Kamaruddin Dato Seri Paduka Hj Talib and Sheikh Abas Sheikh Mohamad, to name a few.

In announcing the event, Hj Muhammad POKILBMDSU Hj Ismail Seruddin, its Executive Director of Administration cum AGM Coordinating Secretary, advised those who wish to attend to clear up outstanding fees for the year 2005 as only paying members will be allowed to propose and vote.

The AGM will also hear an address by its incumbent President and discuss annual reports from the Secretary General and Treasurer General.

Candidates will also each be given an opportunity to reveal their manifestos for five minutes. After the election, there will be speeches from old and new leaders. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
