Footwear Outside Mosque Missing After Friday Prayers
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Shoes and sandals left outside mosques have gone missing!

Tomorrow being a Friday, Muslim worshippers advised other Muslims to leave their best shoes or sandals at home. Otherwise, they may find footwear being "borrowed" and never to be seen again.

"My sons and I used to keep extra pairs of slippers inside the car. We would then take off our `good' shoes and put on the old slippers before walking to the mosque," said a father.

He said that he would normally do this when he visits big mosques because shoe thefts were more likely to occur there.

The father pointed out that he and his children would not normally do this when visiting small mosques. That was until what had happened two weeks ago.

After attending Friday prayers at a. small mosque in Berakas, his children as well five other worshippers were not able to find their footwear.

Meanwhile, worshippers pointed out that Friday prayers were the most favourable time for footwear thieves to stand alongside worshippers, as they would be able to scan the row of shoes and pick out those they consider of value.

They believe that thieves would come to the mosque wearing their old footwear and return home in new ones. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
