Philippine Embassy Launches
Livelihood Programme With Basic Computer Course

Begawan - The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Sunday launched its
Livelihood Programme for 2005 with a `Basic Computer Literacy' Course.
Nearly 40 participants, mostly
Filipinos engaged in the services sector, attended the course held at
the embassy's chancery.
In her inspirational message,
Philippine Ambassador Virginia H. Benavidez said that the computer
course has greatly benefited and helped overseas Filipino workers (OFWs)
in Brunei to be computer-literate and globally competitive.
She added that, upon completion of
the course, participants would be able to communicate with their
families in the Philippines via the Internet.
Their computer knowledge would also
help facilitate their reintegration into the Philippine society, once
their employment contracts abroad end.
The ambassador also took the
opportunity to introduce Ms Marivic Garcia, the new welfare officer.
Several courses have been lined up
for the year as part of the Philippine Embassy's continuing efforts to
contribute to skills upgrading and capacity-building of OFWs in
Brunei.
The Basic Computer Program will cover
Computer System and Windows Environment, Word Processing using MS Word
and Basic Internet.
The course, which opened Sunday,
March 20, at the Philippine Embassy will continue on March 27 and
April 3 this year from 1pm to 3pm.
For this year, there will be two
batches of participants. Each batch will comprise of 30 persons. Only
those who are not accommodated in the first batch will be given
priority in the second batch, which will be scheduled on the 3rd
quarter of the year.
This is just the first batch of
livelihood program to be launched by the Philippine Embassy, OWWA for
the year 2005.
