Man Fined $2,000 For Smuggling Meat And Booze

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 22-year-old local was fined $2,000 or in default three months and eight weeks' imprisonment after pleading guilty to two charges of conveying undeclared goods before the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri heard from Customs Prosecuting Officer Hj Amran Hj Abdullah that the defendant Hj Abdul Aziz bin Hj Md Noor faced a first charge of conveying 20 kilogrammes of chicken wings and a second charge of conveying 119 cans of Tiger Beer, 24 bottles of Guiness Stout and a bottle of Label 5 Whisky.

The court further heard that the defendant was stopped by Marine Police personnel in the vicinity of Simpang Tiga Jae-Jae waters at Kg Menunggul during a routine inspection by the Marine Police on the afternoon of March 21 and was found carrying the items in his boat.

The defendant revealed during investigations that he was asked to buy and deliver the goods from Limbang to somewhere in Kg Setia `A' by two men named Jamal and Hj Zul. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
