Several countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and host country Brunei Darussalam have confirmed their participation in both the male and female categories of the competition.

The Committee on Broadcasting and Information of the 3rd Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition 2005 said that the winners in each category will receive a challenge trophy donated by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei, Mushaf Brunei Darussalam (Brunei's handwritten Al-Quran), prize-money of $3,000 and a certificate of participation.
