Brunei To Host ASEAN Youth Quran
Reading Contest

Begawan - Brunei Darussalam will be hosting the 3rd Southeast
Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition on April 6-8 this year.
The three-day competition, which is
open to Al-Quran readers aged between 18 and 23 in 2005, is aimed at
strengthening the relationship among the ASEAN youths as well as
enhancing the quality of Al-Quran reading in the region.
Several countries, including
Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia,
Thailand and host country Brunei Darussalam have confirmed their
participation in both the male and female categories of the
competition.
The Committee on Broadcasting and
Information of the 3rd Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading
Competition 2005 said that the winners in each category will receive a
challenge trophy donated by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei, Mushaf Brunei Darussalam (Brunei's handwritten Al-Quran),
prize-money of $3,000 and a certificate of participation.
Thailand emerged champion in the
inaugural competition (which was for male readers only) in 2000.
Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia won the male and female categories
respectively in the 2nd competition in 2003.
