Telling Contest
By Hj Mohd Nordin
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The final of story telling competition was held in
conjunction with the Islamic New Year 1426 at the Omar Ali Saifuddien
Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The guest of honour was Dato Paduka
Awang Hj Abdul Rahman bin Hj Mohiddin, Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The aim of the competition was to
encourage children to participate in the celebration of significant
days in the Islamic calendar, especially the Islamic New Year, by
exemplifying the Islamic stories.
This will instill a healthy set of
morals in the children. The competition was also aimed at exposing
children to organisational commitments and spontaneous public speaking
at a young age to shape them into devout Muslims.
A total of 65 children aged 12 and
below, from Al-Quran and Muqaddam classes at mosques and suraus
participated in, while seven "exceptional" participants were chosen to
enter the competition.
The competition was organised by the
Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Mosque Affairs Department in
cooperation with the Islamic Eminence Development and Communication
Section. --
