Local Man Nabbed For Smuggling Fuel

Bandar Seri Begawan – A local man was detained Monday at the Sungai Tujuh Control Post for trying to smuggle fuel out of the country.

The 30-year-old suspect was caught by officers of the Prevention Section of the Royal Brunei Custom trying to smuggle out 356 litres of diesel fuel filled into two separate tanks in his car.

The fuel, which was estimated to cost around $110, was believed to be sold to the neighbouring state.

The man was detained pending further investigation and his car was seized.

In a separate case, a 22-year-old local man has been produced before the Magistrate's Court on two counts of offences under the Custom Act.

The Magistrate's Court found Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Md Noor guilty of bringing into the country without permit 20 kilograms of chicken wing.

He was also charged of smuggling 119 tins and 25 bottles of liquor of different labels.

He was caught by the Muara Marine Police while trying to smuggle the contrabands in a boat at Kampung Menunggol last Monday.

Haji Abdul Aziz was fined a total of $2,000 or in default four months imprisonment.

He was given a grace period of eight weeks to settle the fine.
