Tasek
Merimbun Heritage Park was declared an Asean heritage park in 1984 in
recognition of its importance as a conservation site for its
uniqueness, diversity and values both regionally and internationally.
In response to such an effort, an
outreach programme was held from March 19-21 at Tasek Merimbun
Heritage Park, participated by some 30 students and teachers from
Menglait Secondary School in the capital.
Held by the school in collaboration
with the Brunei Museums Department, the main objective of the
programme was to introduce the importance of biodiversity of flora and
fauna at the park.
Among the activities organised during
the programme were talks on nature, questionnaires, field studies,
collection of specimens, preservation, and bird watching.
Divided into three groups, the
students were assisted and guided by the park's staff throughout the
outing and were given an opportunity to learn about the ecology of
plants and wildlife in the area.
A presentation of their findings
during the outing was delivered which concluded the three-day
programme.
