50 Students Develop Skills At OGDC
Discovery Camp

Begawan - The OGDC Discovery Camp, `Enriching the Mind',
organised in partnership with STEP Centre, Ministry of Education ended
yesterday morning with a closing ceremony.
More than 50 Secondary Two students
from 32 schools throughout the country took part in the four-day camp.
The camp was designed specifically
for the first term school holiday and through this programme,
participants were exposed to leadership skills and were taught the
importance of working together as a team.

Yusop, Acting .Director of Schools, as the chief guest was Pg Hj Idris
bin Pg Hj Bakar, Assistant Director of Schools.

Hjh Norjum noted in her speech that one of Brunei's educational
objectives is to produce individuals with science skills.
She believes that one of the ways to
achieve this is by holding yearly projects such as the OGDC Discovery
Camp.
The camp has been held since 2003 and
is organised by the Ministry of Education through the Science,
Technology and Environment Centre (STEP), and BSP through the Seria
Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC).
Among the objectives of the camp were
to stir up students' interest in science and technology, and to give
them more information about the oil and gas industry.
The acting director noted that there
has been an increase in the number of participants, saying that it was
a positive sign. She hoped that more students would take part in
future.
Students are encouraged to grab hold
of the golden opportunity by taking part in the camp, as they would be
able to exchange ideas and also develop their knowledge.
The acting director also urged school
principals to give their continued support in making the OGDC
Discovery Camp a Success.
Meanwhile, Pg Hj Idris, Assistant
Director of Schools, toured the campsite and witnessed a water rocket
demonstration.
Besides fitness and endurance outdoor
activities, participants were required to produce a-drama, which
involved singing, dancing and acting, based on topics given on Monday.
The best performance was staged
yesterday morning, which showcased students' creativity in scripting a
drama.
After the drama show, prizes and
certificates were presented to participating students. Winners were
awarded with special prizes for their exemplary leadership quality and
outstanding creativity and talent.
The activities organised during the
camp were Discovery Extreme (a treasure hunt-like activity),
Technology Challenge (designed to ignite students' creativity and
innovativeness), Water Rocket Challenge and Sci-Tech Programme (a
hands-on activity which included making recycled paper, stage
performances as well as activities with BSP Fire Station). --
