By Laila Rahman

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Development marked this year's World Water Day with a launching ceremony held at the Public Works Department at the Ministry of Development.

The ceremony was officiated by Pehin Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, the Minister of Development, who was also the guest of honour at the function.

Also present were permanent secretaries and senior government officials from the ministry.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from Awang Haji Rashid bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Head Director of the Public Works Department.

In his speech, Awang Haji Rashid said that the celebration was aimed at reminding government and non-government agencies as well as the private sector on the importance of working together in implementing water projects in order to ensure continuous and sustainable growth.

Such cooperation from various sectors is also crucial for the ministry in handling and overcoming issues relating to water management and supply in the country.

The guest of honour later delivered his speech and officiated the ceremony.

He also presented prizes to the winners of the Photography Competition, WWD Art Attack and the Best Water Treatment Competition.

Certificates and souvenirs were also presented to the Stella School students who performed at the function.

The ceremony continued with permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Development presenting certificates and souvenirs to the previous directors of Water Services, Public Works Departments, judges and sponsors.

Towards the end of the function, the guest of honour accompanied by the other guests viewed the exhibition held at the venue.

Various activities have been lined up to mark the Water World Day. One of these events is the World Water Day Splash to be held from April 1 to 3 at the parking lot of the Public Works Department in the capital.

In the bicycle expedition to be held on April 3, participants are required to carry water along the way with the aim of cultivating public awareness on the importance to save water.
