Ministry Of Development Launches
‘World Water Day’

Begawan - The Ministry of Development marked this year's World
Water Day with a launching ceremony held at the Public Works
Department at the Ministry of Development.
The ceremony was officiated by Pehin
Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, the Minister of
Development, who was also the guest of honour at the function.
Also present were permanent
secretaries and senior government officials from the ministry.
The ceremony began with welcoming
remarks from Awang Haji Rashid bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Head Director of
the Public Works Department.
In his speech, Awang Haji Rashid said
that the celebration was aimed at reminding government and
non-government agencies as well as the private sector on the
importance of working together in implementing water projects in order
to ensure continuous and sustainable growth.
Such cooperation from various sectors
is also crucial for the ministry in handling and overcoming issues
relating to water management and supply in the country.
The guest of honour later delivered
his speech and officiated the ceremony.
He also presented prizes to the
winners of the Photography Competition, WWD Art Attack and the Best
Water Treatment Competition.
Certificates and souvenirs were also
presented to the Stella School students who performed at the function.
The ceremony continued with permanent
secretaries at the Ministry of Development presenting certificates and
souvenirs to the previous directors of Water Services, Public Works
Departments, judges and sponsors.
Towards the end of the function, the
guest of honour accompanied by the other guests viewed the exhibition
held at the venue.
Various activities have been lined up
to mark the Water World Day. One of these events is the World Water
Day Splash to be held from April 1 to 3 at the parking lot of the
Public Works Department in the capital.
In the bicycle expedition to be held
on April 3, participants are required to carry water along the way
with the aim of cultivating public awareness on the importance to save
water.
The World Water Day Young Engineer's
Race coorganised with PUJA (Persatuan Ukur, Jurutera dan Arkitek) will
be held on April 10 while a golf tournament will kickoff on April 17.
