By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - A group of 35 Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) members yesterday set off on a goodwill visit to Pontianak in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The move is part of PEMODA's annual activity to strengthen ties with members of the Big Bikes Association there.

The expedition, which involves 25 motorcycles and two back-up vehicles, was headed by Awg Hairel Hj Simpul, PEMODA Social and Relation Secretary, and Awg Sam bin Hj Ahad, Road Captain.

On hand to flag-off the expedition from Jerudong Park was Haji Abu Bakar Hj Md Arsah, PEMODA President.

In his speech, the president urged participating members to preserve the good name and image of both the association and the country.

He also reminded them to exercise extra precaution and to obey the traffic rules and regulations.

The group will stay in Sibu before continuing their journey to Kuching the following day.

There, PEMODA members will join a team of Victoria Armed Big Bike Kuching members before making their way to Pontianak on March 24.

According to the president, the annual activity does not only foster closer ties among big bike riders in the region, but also provides an opportunity to promote the tourism industry in both countries.

The group is expected to arrive on March 29.

Meanwhile, six PEMODA members, led by President Haji Abu Bakar, will be participating in the 'Asean Brotherhood Journey.'

The Jakarta event is held in conjunction with the ASEAN Big Bike Festival 2005.
