Canadian Pianist Captures Brunei

Begawan - As the first foreigner to perform in the new Radio
and Television Brunei (RTB) Hall, Canadian concert pianist Dr Roger
Lord Wednesday mesmerised his audience with his talent and dexterity.
In a two-hour concert, Lord delivered
his special repertoire for Brunei comprising famous composers from
France, Canada, USA-Louisiana, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia and. China.
In the first part of the programme,
Lord took his audience through the history of music with pieces by
Jean-Philippe Rameau in the 1700's to the famous Claire de lone by
Claude Debussy followed by Vietnamese popular melodies by Nguyen Van
Ty.
After playing the Valse de Salon by
Calixa Lavallee, the great Canadian musician who composed the National
Anthem `O Canada', Lord took the audience to travel from his hometown
in Maritime Canada to USA Louisiana.
Roger Lord launched the second part
of the programme with a mezzo forte duet with his adopted Bruneian
protegee Timothy Chua, who played with him three Brunei-fold melodies
- Kampong Ayer, Lela Menchanai and Lumut Lunting.
After the thunderous applause, Roger
brought the crowd to an even higher crescendo with his piano rendition
of `La Rose de Phnom Penh' composed by King Norodom Sihanouk of
Cambodia. It was Roger's premiere performance on four pieces. --
