80 Complete Youth Camp At Masjid Kg Lambak
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - More than 80 male youths from seven mosques participated in a three-day youth camp held at the Masjid Kg Lambak, Berakas during the current school holidays, aimed at filling up the youths' time with meaningful and religious activities.

The youth camp, the second this year and organised by Youth Group, Masjid Lambak Takmir Committee, ended yesterday.

It was officially launched by Pehin Dato Hj Abidin bin OKP Abdul Rashid on Sunday and was closed by Dato Hj Adanan Hj Hanafiah, the District Officer for Brunei Muara.

According to Imam Hj Adfzillah Hj Mohd Yussof, the Chairman, the gathering was organised to provide the youths with strong religious background so they would not be lured into a world that dabbles in the bizarre which could expose them to bodily and spiritual dangers.

He said youths are easily lured by the spirit of idealism and sense of adventure, and could easily be alienated and misguided if religious values are not taught to them.

"They could be victims of anti-social activities which are extreme manifestations of a growing problem of moral degradation that has caused increasing concern amongst the community elders and religious people.

"Therefore it is the duty of all of us to lead the youth to be strong and proactive so they would not be easily swayed by bad influences," he said.

He added the camp required the participating male youths to stay at the mosque during its entire duration.

The youths were exposed to religious talks, al-Quran recital and prayers, motivation workshops, religious contests and also sports for physical enlightenment.

In addition, to motivate them to become imams or prayer leaders, religious contests such as delivering sermons were also organised. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
