Resident Laments Drainage Problem
In Belait
By Liza Mohd
Kuala Belait -
A resident in X11 Kuala Belait recently expressed grief over
the ongoing drainage problem in his area, which had led to floods
during last year's rainy season.
According to house owner Richard
Chin, the centre of the drainage is now covered with sand due to
re-development works of a few houses in front of his residence.
He noted that the re-development
included raising the ground level and filling the edge of their
boundary lines with sand.
Due to the works, a portion of the
drainage shared by residents in the area is cut off and is now covered
in sand, affecting the water flow to the main drainage along Jalan
Maulana, Chin said.
He added that when rainy season
comes, the sewage water will rise and gush into his house as it is
unable to reach the main drainage.
The area currently undergoing
re-development has a channel to discharge sewage water to undeveloped
land nearby, instead of connecting it to the main drainage constructed
by the government, he said.
Chin is aware that the re-development
project has been approved by relevant authorities, and that the flawed
drainage they have built is within their properties.
Nevertheless, he detailed the
setbacks he suffered in a letter he recently sent to the Kuala Belait
and Seria Municipal Board.
Although two officers from the board
visited the site in January this year, no actions have yet been taken.
Chin and other affected property
owners therefore urge relevant authorities to provide a lasting
solution to the drainage problem before the rainy season approaches.
