UBD Literature Experts To Talk At KL Seminar

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two literature experts from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) departed for Kuala Lumpur yesterday noon to join regional counterparts in a seminar meant to accelerate future development of Malay literature.

Dr Hj Morsidi Hj Muhammad, Head of Malay Literature Department at the Faculty of Arts and Social Science, and Prof Datuk Dr Hashim Awang, a professor of the faculty, will join literature experts from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand in presenting working papers at the Kuala Lumpur seminar from March 22 to 24.

The 2nd Regional Theory and Critics of Malay Literature seminar is organised by Literature Theory and Critics Section of the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Kuala Lumpur.

Its aim is to group literature graduates and experts from five countries under one roof to discuss about the theory and critic aspects of literature meant to spur growth in Malay literature.

Hj Morsidi will present a paper on 'Pendekatan Firasat danAplikasinya Dalam Puisi Melayu' or Telepathy Approach and Its Application in Malay Poems.

Dr Rachmat Djoko Pradopo and Dr Faruk HT from Indonesia will present papers entitled 'Kritik Sastera Indonesia Moden' and 'Kisah Penjara Etis dan Filosofis', respectively.

Singaporeans Prof Madya Dr Abdul Rahman Napiah will talk on 'Teori dan Kritikan Sastera Singapura: Penghadiran dan Pengukuhannya' and Azhar Ibrahim on 'Teori Sastera dan Dogmatisisme'.

A literature expert from Thailand, Abdulroya Panaemalae, will also deliver his working paper.

Prof Dr Muhamad Salleh, Malaysia's national laureate or Sasterawan Negara (SN), will talk about `Khalayak di Serambi Pentas'.

Prof Madya Dr Sahlan Mohd Saman will deliver a talk on 'Industri Teori: Proses Pembinaan Sastera Kebangsaan dan Serantau'; Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Yusof Hassan on `Teori Kritikan Pemikiran dalam Karya Fiksyen Shahnon Ahmad'; and Jeniri Amir to speak on `Novel Politik: Antara Konflik dan Penyelewengan'. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
