Indonesian Man Jailed For Illegal Entry
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 22-year-old Indonesian man who failed to pay a $500 fine was jailed for a month after he pleaded guilty to entering the country illegally when he did not produce his passport to immigration authorities upon arrival.

Teguh Priyatno, who hails from Cilacap in Indonesia, entered Brunei through the Kuala Lurah Immigration Control Post without producing his passport to officials there and managed to sneak past the post on March 4.

The defendant intended to extend his social visit pass, which had expired on March 3, by going across the border and re-entering Brunei.

Officials only found out about the offence when Teguh produced his passport for departure clearance at the same post on March 9 to an immigration officer on duty.

The defendant told investigators that he did not know there was no social visit pass endorsed in his passport until it was checked.

However, the Immigration Prosecuting Officer yesterday said that it is the defendant's responsibility to check on his status before entering or leaving the country. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
