By James Kon & CT Hj Mahmod

Bandar Seri Begawan - A routine patrol by the Marine Police late yesterday afternoon took a surprising turn when they came across a small boat suspected of bringing contraband goods.

The police detained a local man, who was the sole person piloting the boat at the Simpang 3 Jaie-Jaie area of Brunei river, near Putat area.

After inspecting his boat, the police found 119 cans of Tiger Beer, 24 Guinness Stout bottles and a bottle of wine.

Other suspected contraband goods found in his possession were 10 packets of Al brand chicken wings, which are listed as restricted goods under import laws.

Also found on the boat was a wooden box containing utensils believed to be used for consuming illicit drugs.

The five CID personnel from Marine Police, who conducted the patrol, confiscated all of the suspected contraband items and brought them to a police station for investigation.
