Belait Families Cashing In On Rice
Production

Kuala Belait –
Labi families in this district are cashing in on rice planting
these days.
From traditionally plating rice for
family consumption only, it has become a source of income,
particularly for those who have been involved in rice planting since
their childhood.
Radio Television Brunei (RTB) crew
found that at present residents in the Labi area in the Belait
District are now busy harvesting their rice plantation.
Their harvest will be sold to the
Agriculture Department as well as to relatives and friends.
There are also families, who have
settled at other places, but still have land in the area which they
have planted with rice.
Dayang
Sa'adiah bte Abdullah, a 65-year-old convert and one of the residents
from Kampong Sungai Lalit, Lumut, owns a half acre rice field.
She has planted the 'pusu' type of
rice. Now, she is selling her harvest to the Agriculture Department.
