No Food In Broken Cutleries Please, Restaurants Told
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Consumers have urged restaurants, a pivotal pillar in the nation's service industry nationwide, not to serve diners with broken cutleries as damaged items can physically hurt them.

A consumer, Hj Mohd Zaide bin Hj Damit, said that he always sees dishes served in broken cutleries to diners.

"Diners usually complain to the servers about the damaged cutleries. But they should not be served with damaged items in the first place," he said adding that he was served with a broken glass yesterday morning.

He said operators should check all cutleries on a daily basis before they are used to serve customers.

He added broken cutleries could be dangerous to diners as minute fragments if swallowed can result in damage to internal organs. Broken cups and glasses could also injure lips, he said.

Customers have also called on restaurants to clean up dirty public toilets, which are a big turn-off to customers as well as foreign tourists.

"Toilets show the country's culture and breeding," Hj Mohd Zaide said.

He also called for awards to be given to establishments with clean toilets in the hope to start off a culture of hygiene and sanitation nationwide.

"All food outlets must also make sure that their toilets are equipped with liquid soap and an automatic hand-dryer or tissue papers," he added. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
