Five Nabbed In Temburong Raid
By Lyna Mohamad & Hj Minor Absah

Temburong District - Immigration enforcement personnel, in a continuous effort to curb and track down illegal immigration activities, last Saturday evening carried out a raid in the Temburong district.

The team of 28 immigration enforcement officers began the operation by raiding the new Temburong Quarry quarters in Kg Sibulu.

Awg Jumaat Hj Burut, Senior Chief Immigration Officer, led the raiding team.

SCIO Awg Jumaat and his team then headed to a rented house in Kg Amo believed to be occupied by foreigners before proceeding to a staff house in Kg Menengah also occupied by foreign workers.

Immigration enforcers ended the raid with an inspection of a Bangladeshi worker’s house in Kg Belingus.

The raiding party rounded up a total of seven foreigners who failed to show relevant and legal documents to law enforcers.

They were taken to the Bangar Police Station for further screening while waiting for their documents to be produced by their employers.

Two of the foreigners were later released while the remaining five were detained at the police station and will be taken to the enforcement office at the Immigration headquarters today for further screening.

SCIO Awg Jumaat stressed that his team of enforcement officers will carry out more raids throughout the country to catch foreigners and employers who were flouting the law.

He added that they would leave no stone unturned in their mission to track down immigration violators.

He warned that the enforcement section will take appropriate action against violators and no excuse will be entertained as repeated reminders of the consequences and severe penalties for immigration violators have been circulated extensively through the media.

The raid on Temburong Saturday evening, which lasted till the early hours of yesterday morning, proved that enforcement personnel were serious in tracking down and prosecuting immigration violators, he added.

SCIO Awg Jumaat also expressed his appreciation to members of the public who have continuously extended their cooperation in reporting illegal activities.

He encouraged anyone with any information on such activities to call the unit's hotline numbers at 2383777 and 2383555. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
