Brunei Way Of Resolving Conflict A Plus To UNESCO

Bandar Seri Begawan – Calak Brunei, Cara Brunei or the Brunei way of conflict resolution emphasizing dialogue and compromise is a contribution to the promotion of peace that the world at large can benefit from.

This was highlighted when Brunei was recently accepted as the 191st member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In a statement from the United Nations, UNESCO's Director-General Koichiro Matsuura in welcoming Brunei Darussalam into the agency said that the Sultanate brings special strengths to UNESCO's work through its promotion of sustainable development and cross-cultural dialogue and peace, noting that Brunei's accession to UNESCO on Thursday is very close to achieving full universality.

The accession to the Paris-based organization was formalized when Pengiran Haji Yunus bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Brunei’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, signed the UNESCO's constitution.

The specialized agency that was founded in 1945 serves as a laboratory of ideas, a standard-setter for universal accords on ethical issues and a clearing house for sharing information and knowledge. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
