Rotary Inter Club Meet At Empire

Bandar Seri Begawan - The 18th Pan Borneo Inter Club Meet for Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore was launched yesterday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong.

Dr Ivor Thevathasan JP, District Governor for Rotary District 3310, officiated the launch.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan for the first time in 18 years, the event will conclude today.

The meeting carries the theme, "Treasure Of Fellowship And Fun With Rotary Family", the event is joined by some 150 Rotarians and families as well as guests from various Rotary clubs in District 3310 - Borneo, Singapore and West Malaysia.

The objectives of the meet are to provide an opportunity for Rotarians to meet and exchange ideas on all aspects of the organisation, and to identify projects that can be undertaken by these clubs collectively.

Jeff Yong Teck Chin, President of Rotary Club BSB, in his speech, said, "We are indeed very proud and honoured to host the Pan Borneo Meet in the capital for the first time. This would not be possible without the spirit of teamwork and unity among my fellow Rotarians."

He added, "This is a very special year for Rotarians as we celebrate the centennial year of service. Forty years ago, Rotary Club BSB was chartered and sponsored by its counterpart in Kota Kinabalu."

The event also saw a keynote address by invited speaker Timothy Ong on economic prospects and development in Brunei.

Other speakers such as Dr Thevathasan, IPDG David Tong and PDG John Cheah also delivered presentations on "Rotary In The 2151 Century", "Rotary In District 3310", and "Membership Growth" respectively.

In every inter club meet, a joint project is carried out and coordinated by the host club. This year, the project involved the building of a $35,000workshop/training centre for Pusat Ehsan in Kg Bengkurong.

Later in the afternoon, the key to the new workshop was handed over to Pg Hj Tajuddin bin Pg Hj Yassin, General Manager of Pusat Ehsan, by the district governor. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
