Quran Recital Held In Kg Masin

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Religious Affairs organised an al-Quran recital competition last Friday night at Masjid Kg Masin, Mukim Pengkalan Batu to encourage the reading of the holy book and learn the true teachings of Islam.

The Majlis Halaqah Tilawatil Al-Quran contest was co-ordinated by the Centre for Learning and Teaching of A1-Quran, Syiar Islam Communication and Development Section, Department of Mosque Affairs and the Takmir Committee of Masjid Kg Masin.

A female youth reader from Kg Masin, Amal Nazirah Hj Asmat, also participated in.

Present were Hj Abdullah Hj Metassim, Director of Administration, and Hj Tassim, Director of Islamic Laws from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Muslims said the contest will encourage understanding of Islam through the scrutiny of the holy book.

They said Islam is a religion of faith and peace, having reached the region through trade and not conquest.

"The stereotyping of Islam is one of the problems that have to he overcome by everyone, not just of the West but also by Muslims in making more people aware of the teachings of the Holy Al-Quran," they said. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
