Red Tide Still Threatens Brunei Waters

Bandar Seri Begawan – The Fishery Department continues to monitor the red tide phenomenon with the latest showing that the red aide is still spotted at several locations in Brunei waters.

The affected areas are Pilong-Pilongan, Pelumpong up to Meragang, Lubuk Simpur, Serasa, Ujung Sapuh, Pulau Bedukang and Pulau Keingaran.

As a precautionary measure, members of the public are advised to abstain from eating small fish and molluscan shellfish caught from the affected areas or of unknown origin.

The fish must also be cleaned thoroughly by removing the gills and internal organs before they are cooked.

Fishermen are also urged to refrain from catching fish from the affected waters.

Anyone, who spots a dead fish at any of the Brunei beaches, must immediately inform the Fishery Department through 881-9218, 876-9730, 878-6399 or 888-7480. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
