More Locals Receive Honorary
Medals In Royal Ceremony

Begawan – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of
Brunei, awarded more honorary medals to Bruneians in conjunction with
His Majesty's 58th birthday.
In a ceremony yesterday, the third
this week, 558 more people received medals of various merits in
recognition of their services and deeds to the country.
Presenting the medals on behalf of
His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei was His Royal Highness the Crown
Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.
The Crown Prince first presented 31
people the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) or Meritorious Service Medals.
His Royal Highness also presented the
Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB) to a total of 276 recipients.
The ceremony continued with the Crown
Prince presenting the Pingat Kerja Lama or long service medals to 251
people.
As in previous ceremonies, recipients
comprised of employees of various ministries and government
departments, members of the security forces as well as from the
business communities.
Apart from rendering meritorious
services, recipients recommended for the awards must be loyal to the
monarchy, nation and religion, and be of virtuous and creditable
characters and conduct.
To bless the ceremony, a doa selamat
was read by Pehin Imam Dato Ustaz Awang Haji Abdul Hamid.
The ceremony was attended by Yang
Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, cabinet ministers, members of
council, foreign diplomats, permanent secretaries and heads of
department.
The awarding of medals is a
reflection of the contribution of the employees throughout their
services in their fields of employment. With such medals, it is hoped
that they would be more dynamic and resilient and bring improvement to
Brunei for the betterment in their fields.
Throughout the three days of medal
presentation beginning on Monday, some 1,671 recipients received the
Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB), Pingat
Kerja Lama (PKL), and the Police Long Service Medals in recognition of
the work rendered through their respective departments.
The Pingat Jasa Kebaktian or
Meritorius Service Medal was instituted in 1954.
Apart from having clean service and
legal records, the person recommended for the award should also
possess a virtuous and creditable personality.
This year, some 98 people were
awarded the medal.
The Pingat Kerja Lama or the Long
Service Medal was also instituted in 1954.
Recipients of the medal have to serve
in the government for a period of 20 years with monthly salary payment
based on the rules set.
Every recommendation for the honorary
medals has to have a thorough evaluation of the last three years of
their performance appraisal at least at the very good level.
A total of 802 received the medals.
The Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB) is
awarded to recipients, who have served with His Majesty's government
for a period of not less than nine years for officers in Division Two
and above, not less than 12 years for Division Three, 15 years for
Division Four and 18 years for Division Five. Some 757 people received
the awards this year.
The Police Long Service Medal was
awarded to 13 police personnel for their services.
In the recent National Day's titah,
His Majesty touched on the Civil Service machinery, which is tasked to
bring the country towards progress and development that are blessed by
Allah and appreciated by every individual on Brunei’s soil, His
Majesty reminded all government agencies to be ever prepared to carry
out their respective obligation.
And in occasion such as yesterday,
residents of the country especially the recipients of medal should
bear the titah in their minds to be practised as their guideline.
