‘I’m Victim Of False Accusation’
Says Employee
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Cases of employees submitting fraudulent medical
certificates may happen once in a while. But, a woman accused of doing
so said her employers should not blindly point fingers at employees in
the absence of solid evidence as such action could blemish their
employment record.
The woman was filled with tears as
she narrated her case to the Weekend Bulletin, claiming that she was
innocent.
"I am innocent all along and I cried
when I received the letter from my employer," she said.
"They should go to the Health Centre
and check the authenticity of the medical certificate instead of
writing to me for an explanation which caused a black mark on my
employment record."
"Furthermore, I should have not been
asked to provide my employer an explanation or a show-cause letter
when it would have been much easier for them to go to the Health
Centre and check the authenticity of the medical certificate," she
added.
She claimed she did go to the health
centre for an illness and was given a medical certificate that allowed
her to take leave from her work.
But she also said that the medical
officer on duty at the centre had written the wrong date on the
medical certificate.
"My employer should have checked on
the matter directly with the medical centre instead of issuing me with
a show-cause letter for an explanation as to why disciplinary action
should not be taken against me."
"My good employment record has been
tarnished because of the letter. It may affect my bid for promotion,"
she said.
She said that in she was willing to
file for compensation and damages over the false accusation for the
sake of defending her integrity and innocence, adding that she had
been suffering considerable stress as a result of the accusation.
The Weekend Bulletin had tried to
contact the employer for several days without success. --
