New Village Head Told To Upgrade Living Standards

Bandar Seri Begawan – The new village head of Kg Bunut Perpindahan was urged yesterday to apply fully the services of the Village Legislative Council Committee to continuously develop and plan activities directed towards upgrading the standard of living of village residents.

Dato Paduka Hi Idris Hj Belaman, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued this reminded at the ceremony for the presentation of certificate of appointment to Awg Hj Adanan Hj Md Salleh as Village Head held at his residence.

Speaking as chief guest, the Permanent Secretary also urged the village residents to extend their full cooperation and to continuously give their support to the new village head.

"This is important for the village head in bringing the village community towards a better living and improvement from time to time,” he stressed.

This, he added, can be accomplished by maintaining the peaceful, prosperous, harmonious, unified, helpful and respectful environment that they have been practicing in the community's daily neighborhood life. .

He also called on the villagers to step forward in involving themselves as members of the Village Legislative Council in order to work hand-in-hand with the village head, the Mosque Takmir Committee and the village neighbourhood committee.

Dato Paduka Hj Idris said they should not only cooperate in planning relevant programmes but also in implementing beneficial activities.

Awg Hj Adanan, meanwhile, in his speech expressed his appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei and His Majesty's Government as well as' he village residents in trusting him with the responsibilities as a village head.

He also extended his appreciation to the former village head, Awg Hj Abdullah Hj Halus who had carried out an excellent job during his tenure as the village head where significant improvement and development had taken place.

He also pledged to continue his efforts in upgrading the living standards of the village residents as well as the development of the village.

Yesterday's ceremony commenced with the reading of Al-Fatihah. It was followed by a speech of Dato Paduka Hj Adanan Hj Hanafah, by the Brunei-Muara District Officer.

He highlighted the responsibilities of a village head and also called on the villagers to extend their fullest cooperation to the new leader.

The chief guest later presented the certificate of appointment to the new village head, which followed with the reading and signing of the village head oath by Awg Hj Adanan. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
