Teams of sailors from all over Borneo
competed in the two-day Interport Regatta hosted by the Royal Brunei
Yacht Club last weekend.
Adults and Children teams from RBYC,
Kinabalu Yacht Club, Kuala Belait Yacht Club, Sandakan Yacht Club and
Piasau Boat Club displayed their sailing skills in a series of five
races on Saturday and eight on Sunday last week.
The adults sailed in ISOs, light,
sensitive and speedy dinghies requiring two-men crew. The juniors
sailed alone in an Optimist, which caters for children up to 15 years.
Competing as part of four boat teams,
adults and youngsters had to employ tactics, which benefited the team
rather than individual sailors.
The Adults regatta competition was
won by the Royal Brunei Yacht Club.
The team from Sandakan took home the
Borneo Optimist Regatta Trophy for showing outstanding skills on the
water.
The Dustry Millar Trophy, competed in
by those who usually crew, was won by Kinabalu Yacht Club. The victory
compensated for its first defeat in the Hales Trophy since 2001.
The RBYC hosted the event sponsored
by Finesco Capital Management.
