Habit
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Berakas played host
to some 45 students from Anthony Abell College (AAC), Seria last
Tuesday in what was described as a study and language tour towards
inculcating the reading culture for a knowledgeable society.
Led by Cikgu Hj Bujang Hj Matnor, the
Form 5 students were first briefed on the different sections and
departments of the DBP.
The students then visited the
Language Development and Expansion, Literature Development and
Expansion, Publication, and Multimedia and Aesthetics sections.
They were also able to interact with
in-house writers, editors, artists, graphic designers and khat jawi
artists.
Hj
Bujang said the visit was to satisfy a new approach to inculcate the
reading culture by visiting the government department that is
responsible for the development of Malay language and literature in
this country.
"The visit will also expose students
to the roles played by DBP on language and literature development," he
added.
According to Siti Zaleha Hj Kaprawi,
DBP Public Affair Officer, the visit was vital to develop the reading
habit among students as well as open up the creative minds of the
talented ones so they would know where to send their contributions for
publications.
While there, the students were also
encouraged to write articles for DBP publications in magazines such as
Majalah Juara and Bahana, she added. --
