Francophonie Gala Nite At Empire

Begawan - Bringing together people from French-speaking
countries around the world, Alliance Francaise of Brunei Darussalam
organised a 'Francophonie Gala Nite' on Tuesday evening at the Empire
Cinema.
It was the 11th year that such an
event was held in the country and the 21st year around the world.
In his welcoming speech, Mr Ith
Dettola, the Ambassador of Cambodia, mentioned that the event played
an important role in strengthening the friendship between
French-speaking countries globally.
The event also saw the presentation
of prizes to winners of the `French Poetry Competition' organised by
Alliance Francaise and the French Embassy.
The competition was participated in
by students from Science College, STPRI, SMPAP Hjh Rashidah as well as
Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
Alice Ng Sui Fung was the winner in
the beginners' category while Zirwattol Wahidah Hj Mohd Salleh
received the prize for the intermediate category.
The two were awarded a month's
scholarship in France from Pg Dato Paduka Haji Idriss, the President
of Alliance Francaise.
Meanwhile, a French sketch entitled
`School of Vampires' written and performed by Jerudong International
School (JIS) students was presented at Cinema 3.
There were also special screenings of
the Canadian movie, `Gaz Bar Blues' and a French movie, `White Lies'.
