Brunei Bids For World Market At Japan Expo
By CT Hj Mahmod

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) and Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA) are gearing up to showcase Brunei to the world at the Aichi Expo 2005 in a bid to market the Sultanate's economy on a people-to-people basis.

The showcase will involve local companies taking their business opportunities to the global stage.

Aichi Expo 2005, dubbed as the key world event of the year, will run for six months from March 25 to Sept 25 at Nagoya, Japan, bringing together unique cultures, resources, technology, knowledge, products and services from over 200 countries.

Focusing on the theme "Nature Wisdom", the World Expo 2005 will put the spotlight on the sustainability of humanity and the natural environment, calling for businesses and corporations to work together in the global network, establishing partnerships and alliances across the globe to ensure growth and a better future.

With thousands of people from across the globe coming to take part in the expo, it will become a platform for global networking where doors will be opened to Brunei-based agencies seeking new global partners and be part of the e-global citizens.

BJFA, in line with its mission to foster people-to-people exchange in areas of culture, education, business and technical cooperation between both the countries, is keen to invite Brunei-based organisations to be part of the team to represent the country at the expo.

The non-profit organisation is offering the chance for locals to visit Japan and gain first-hand experience about the friendly nation, which will further cement the good bilateral ties between Brunei and Japan.

A BJFA member yesterday said, he believed that Bruneians are ready for this global exposure.

As part of BJFA's aggressive marketing strategy, 10,000 copies of multimedia CD ROM entitled "Global Partners" will be distributed at the Brunei pavilion in the upcoming expo as well as at the Aichi International Trade Bureau.

The proposed Global Partners CD ROM profiles Brunei Darussalam, covering general facts and figures, our rich culture and heritage, and the country's industry highlighting potential investments.

Importantly, it is aimed at helping local companies, businesses and associations find partners beyond the Brunei borders, by having their organisations profiled in the CD ROM saying `hello' to viewers.

A BJFA entourage involving local companies, UBD students and members is scheduled to depart Brunei for Nagoya on May 16, just in time for the designated day for Brunei at the World Aichi Expo 2005 on May 18.

Those who are thinking of finding a new global partner may catch a sneak preview of the Aichi Expo 2005 on Star World' channel tomorrow (Friday) at 6pm. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
