By Sonia K

Bandar Seri Begawan - The German luxury cruise ship MS Europa on her 282nd trip around the world docked at the Muara Port yesterday afternoon for several hours before continuing her cruise to Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong.

Present to greet the visitors including Hagen Damaschke, the captain of MS Europa, and Senator Datuk Dr Helmut Baur, Honorary Consul General of Malaysia in Germany, and his wife upon their arrival at the Muara Port were Mr Conrad Cappell, the German Ambassador to Brunei, and his wife and Nigel D. Moore, the Empire Hotel and Country Club's Food and Beverage Manager.

Sponsored by the Tourism Board Department, the cultural group from Kampong Sungai Kelugos and Kampong Kulapis was also present to welcome the MS Europa passengers.

Some of the 200 passengers went on a sightseeing tour to some of the major attractions in the Sultanate such as Kampong Ayer, the Royal Regalia, Istana Nurul Iman and the Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque.

The brief tour of the capital was organised by Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd.

Those who did not join the tour went to the Empire Hotel and Country Club for tea.

Before joining the German ambassador and his wife for tea at the Empire Hotel, Captain Hagen Damaschke brought the ambassador and his wife for a tour of the ship.

He showed them the ship's bridge and lobby and one of its popular restaurants, the Oriental Restaurant, as well as briefed them on the ship's capabilities.

MS Europa, owned by Hapag Llyod, is the only cruise ship in the world, which has been decorated with a "five star plus" rating by Berlitz Cruise Guide. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
