Webmasters Warned On Cyber War
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Local web-masters and system administrators are
advised to brace themselves for the cyber war in the wake of
escalating attacks on foreign government-related websites over the
past week.
A cyber security expert said global
hackers have managed to deface websites of as many 30 government
websites since March 1. It was reported at least six websites
including an official foreign government website have been defaced a
few days ago.
"Hackers who intruded onto the
foreign websites also posted political messages," said the cyber
security expert.
Bernama
also reported that the Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCert)
received logs from six Malaysian websites that had been defaced over
the past week.
MyCert
is currently analysing the data to trace the hackers as reports came
in that at least another two Malaysian websites were also defaced a
few days ago.
Worldwide, local response teams have
issued alerts last Wednesday, notifying server administrators to
tighten up their systems and install the latest security patches to
ward off the attacks. --
