Canadian Pianist On Concert In The
Sultanate

Begawan - World-renowned Canadian solo pianist Roger Lord will
perform a concert at the Dewan Raya Radio Television Brunei (RTB) on
March 16, according to a statement from the Canadian High Commission.
Mr
Paul SH Lau¸ Canadian High Commissioner, said, "It is an auspicious
occasion to have an artist of Professor Lord's calibre perform in
Brunei and be part of our Canada-Brunei Partnership for Progress for
the 21st Century.
In addition, it is also the week when
the world celebrates La Journee Internationale dela Francophonie."
Lord will perform famous Brunei folk
melodies such as Lela Menchanai as well as Vietnamese pieces and a
special rendition of Rose de Phnom Penh, composed by King Norodom
Sihanouk, in addition to compositions from famous musicians from
Canada and France.
The high commissioner also thanked
the Royal Brunei Airlines, Kristal Astro, Brunei LNG, RTB, and A. Ayam
Sdn Bhd for being partners in this presentation.
Roger Lord is from Moneton, New
Brunswick, Canada.
He has carried off first prizes in
the Canadian Music Competition as well as in the Canadian National
Festival of Music. His various engagements have taken him to some of
the world's great cities: Paris, Oslo, Montreal, Buenos Aires, Mexico
City, Quito, Cairo, Riyadh, Hanoi, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai and
Guangzhou, and Tokyo.
He has also performed with symphony
orchestras in North America, South America, Europe and Asia with
conductors such as Jan Ola Amundsen, Jong Yoo, Graham Sutcliffe,
Miguel Jimenez, and Davit Harutyunyan.
In 2000, he was the first Canadian
classical musician ever invited to perform in Brunei. The Association
of Professional Acadian Artist in Canada awarded him the Eloize Award
for Most Successful Acadian Artist Abroad in 1999.
Roger Lord studied at University de
Moneton, McGill University, Universite de Montreal as well as in Paris
and Strasbourg, France.
He also attended special sessions of
the Moscow Piano Institute in Russia at the Gnessin Music Academy. He
holds a doctorate degree in music and is a professor of pianoforte at
the Universite de Moneton. --
