Sg Hanching Mosque To Elect New
Takmir Committee
By Rosli AbIdin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Kampong Sungai Hanching Mosque in Jalan Muara is set
to hold a meeting to elect new Takmir committee members for 2005-2007
on March 23 after mass Maghrib prayers to oversee the smooth
organisation of mosque activities and events.
Hj
Mohd Zaide bin Hj Damit, incumbent secretary, said the meeting will
also include a discussion on the financial and budget reports.
"The present Takmir committee will be
dissolved and an election will be held to select new executive
members," he said.
He called on Muslims in the vicinity
of the mosque to vote during the election.
"It is vital for the people to come
and exercise their rights. This is time for them to elect new
candidates that they believe are competent for the jobs," he said.
He said Takmir committees in the
country have been acknowledged to be very active, adding that he
believed they are more advanced than their counterparts in the region.
He said mosques in Brunei must
however improve in the utilisation of technological innovations.
"We can be proud of our mosque
management as we have seen how local Takmir committees have helped
their respective mosques prosper. Some of our mosques have hives of
activities such as frequent religious talks and building learning
centres aimed towards not only increasing religious knowledge but also
aiding the needy such as fire victims," he said.
He thanked His Majesty's Government
for constructing mosques, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs,
at sites that are accessible to the people.
Such move, he said, enables locals to
go to the mosques frequently thus allowing them to attend mosque-organised
activities such as donation drives.
"Some mosques even have their own
websites now to disseminate their activities," he said. --
