BSP Marks Major Milestone In Safety Performance

Bandar seri Begawan - Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BSP) marked a major milestone in its safety performance when it successfully crossed the five million man-hours without a medical treatment case (TRC).

The outstanding achievement was a direct outcome of concerted efforts by the company and its business partners over the past two years, focused at transforming safety-related workplace behaviours.

A principal thrust of the initiatives has been the introduction of programmes to instill a culture encouraging personal responsibility and intervention in managing potentially unsafe practices.

The five million man-hours without a TRC held added significance to BSP as it had to overcome a fatality incident involving a contractor staff in August 2004.

To mark the occasion, BSP Leadership Team, led by Mark Came, Managing Director, went on a walkabout and personally shook hands with staff to show their appreciation from as early as 5am yesterday.

The "Thank You" sessions involved staff members at various locations of BSP such as Anduki Airfield, KB Wharf, Marine Construction Yard and the Head Office.

Similar recognition will be extended to offshore staff.

In acknowledging BSP staff contributions toward the milestone, Mr Came said, "This is a fantastic achievement and is a well-deserved recognition for the hard work that you are putting into improving our safety performance. Well done."

"I would like to thank everyone of you for your contribution to BSP achieving a new safety record of five million man-hours worked without a medical treatment case”.

BSP took the opportunity to announce on this occasion that it will donate the allocated B$30,000 reward for staff to a charity body in Brunei. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
