From the university, HRH the Crown Prince proceeded to the MediaCorp Caldecott Broadcast Centre where His Royal Highness was welcomed by the Chief Executive Officer, Ernest Wong.

HRH the Crown Prince was briefed on current developments and achievements of the broadcasting centre by Ernest Wong. RTB reported that MediaCorp features prominently in the development of Singapore's broadcasting history. It commenced radio broadcast on June 1, 1936 and television broadcast on February 15, 1963.

Today, MediaCorp is Singapore's largest broadcaster with a complete range of media businesses spanning television, radio, entertainment and movie production, newspapers, magazines, electronic media and other broadcasting services, RTB said.

HRH the Crown Prince toured the centre, where the first stop was the studio where the filming of various local television programmes are done and where dramas and sitcoms are conducted. His Royal Highness had the opportunity to witness the filming of a local comedy drama.

MediaCorp News also produces and distributes news and current affairs programmes in Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages for MediaCorp's station and overseas markets.

Channel News Asia was inaugurated in September 2000 and its satellite network covers areas from the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia up to Australia, RTB said.

Among the projects under the agreement is drama, debating, exchange of television

Her Royal Highness was presented with the school's Corporate Video and attended a briefing on youth development policies conducted by Chan Mun Wei, Deputy Director of Youth Division at the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports Development.

RTB said the Singapore Sports School is a specialised, independent school operating under the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports Development.

The school was officially opened in April last year. All the students take a four- or three-year course, at the end of which they sit for the GCE `O' level examination. Students take up to nine subjects in the Upper Secondary levels, depending on their sports schedule and academic achievement.

The school covers seven hectares, about the size of seven football fields. It offers eight sports activities - badminton, bowling, netball, soccer, swimming, table tennis as well as track and field events.

The school is the only one in Singapore to have its own science sports academy offering services such as Exercise Physiology, Sports Biomechanics, Sports Psychology, Nutrition and Sports Medicine.

The school's vision is to provide students with the best possible sports training and support systems to help realise their sporting potential and talent as well as to produce national athletes. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
