Call For Village Chiefs To Be
Innovative

Begawan Village chiefs are urged to carry innovation and
positive reformation for community management and administration that
will benefit the residents.

Haji Yusoff, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, made
the appeal at the presentation of Certificate of Appointment for newly
appointed Ketua Kampong of Kampong Jaya Setia/Jaya Bakti of Mukim
Berakas 'A'.
He said that the role and
responsibilities of a village leader is not an easy task, especially
in executing his duties with people of different races.
It needs patience, honesty,
charismatic and sacrifice in terms of time and energy, he added.
The Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Home Affairs said that every Penghulu and Ketua Kampong
needs to adhere to the Service scheme for Penghulu and ketua kampong
enforced since 1998.
The scheme clearly stated the role of
a ketua kampong as a bilateral mediator of the government.
Awang
Haji Nordin bin Awang Haji Abu Bakar, 57, was appointed as the New
Ketua Kampong of Kampong Jaya Setia/Jaya Bakti on May 29, 2004.
His last post was a Senior Malay
Teacher at the Education Ministry.
Kampong Jaya Setia/Jaya Bakti has a
population of 1,500 people.
Meanwhile, Awang Haji Mahmud bin Haji
Abdul Latif was voted to be the new ketua kampong of Kampong Penapar,
Tutong.
The voting took place at the Abdul
Rashid Primary School yesterday.
Awang
Haji Mahmud, the 61-year-old former education officer, obtained 157
votes while his rival, Awang Haji Lamzi bin Haji Jaafar, got 54 votes.
More than 200 residents aged 18 and
above turned up to cast their votes.
Present was Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohd
Ali, Acting Tutong District Officer.
Kampong Penapar with an area of eight
square kilometre, is one of the villages under Mukim Tanjong Maya.
It has a population of about 500
people.
More than 50 per cent of its
residents work as government servants. --
