Tsunami Fund Reaches Over $2 Million

Bandar Seri Begawan - More donations for the victims of the deadly tidal waves that hit South Asia and Southeast Asia last year were received by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday.

Some $71,566.10 has been donated by the public, government departments, associations and private donors yesterday.

All the donations were received by Pehin Dato (Dr) Hj Awang Hussain, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Until yesterday, the money collected by the ministry stood at $2,703,284.01.

A mock cheque for $55,659.60 from the Prime Minister's Department was handed over by Pehin Dato PadukaAwang Haji Dani Bin Haji lbrahim, its Permanent Secretary.

This was followed by a donation of $6,750 presented by Datin Hjh Masni Bin Hj Mohd Ali, the Women Council President.

A donation for the tsunami victims collected during the International Bazaar organised by Syarikat Perdana Sdn Bhd was presented by Awang Haji Saji Bin Haji Mudin, the Chairman, from the Municipal Board.

The Girl Guide Association donated $5,676.50 and was presented by Hajah Siti Hafsah Binti Haji Abd Halim, Head Commissioner.

Syarikat Melayu Sengkurong presented a $300 donation handed over by Awg Hj Yahya Bin Bendahari Hj Ghafar, the Chairman.
