Students Find Bargain At Brunei
Book Fair 2005
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Not wanting to miss out on an opportunity to buy
books and magazines at discounted prices, students from various
schools in the country yesterday visited the Brunei Book Fair 2005
at Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.
Some 75 booths have been set up at
the book fair.
Some of the students, who were
speaking to the Bulletin yesterday, said that they enjoyed visiting
the annual book fair because they could find reading materials at
'rock-bottom' prices.
"We can purchase a bundle of
magazines for just 50 cents!" one of the students exclaimed.
There are also publications by the
Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) being offered at bargain
prices. The students went on to say that DBP gave them freebies such
as magazines when they bought some books.
One of the booths that the students
were particularly interested in was a booth, operated by DBP,
dedicated to raise money for the Tsunami Disaster Humanitarian Fund.
Apart from cheap magazines, the
booth also sells an anthology of tsunami poems written by 64 local
poets as well as illustrations by DBP graphic artists. Entitled "Episod
Tsunami: Peringatan Ilahi (Sebuah Iktibar dan Pengajaran)", the book
costs $4 each.
Another three books on ICT
dedicated to the fund and written by Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB)
senior lecturer Hi Kamsani Hj Ahmad are also on sale.
Meanwhile, there are also various
sideline events, such as quizzes, where members of the public can
win prizes.
Yesterday morning, some of the
students took part in a Jawi-writing workshop conducted by Jawi
experts of DBP.
Some 43 participants are taking
part in the book fair, which will end on March 7. --
