Don't Play Loud Music During Prayer Times
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Muslims urged music establishments located near mosques to show respect by stopping to play loud music during prayers.

They said music shop operators should be sensitive of Muslims by respecting the call for prayers or `azan' at nearby mosques.

"The azan only lasts several minutes.

"These shops can continue to play their music after it is over," they said.

They added that while Islam does not ban people from listening to music, the playing of music must not interfere with the call of prayers.

"The calls of prayers are meant to remind Muslims about the praying times. Therefore, such calls should not be obstructed by the playing of loud music," they said.

"Such cooperation could pave the way for better understanding of Islamic issues," they added. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
