Japanese Ships Arrive To Boost

Three Japanese ships, a helicopter
carrier and two destroyer-type vessels, arrived at the Muara
Commercial Wharf yesterday morning with more than 700 Japanese
Maritime Self Defence (JMSD) personnel.
Receiving the head of the visiting
JMSD personnel, Captain Tameyoshi Hirayama, Commander Escort Division
61, was Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Lt. Col. Haji
Jamaluddin bin Gafar.
On his first visit to Brunei, Captain
Hirayama said he would take the full opportunity to enhance
cooperation between both navies as well as boost understanding and
ties between the two nations.
Captain Hirayama told the Bulletin
that he was keen to visit places of interest in the Sultanate and see
the culture of the Asean member country.
It was revealed that about 110
Japanese midshipman would make a study tour to the RBN facilities
during their four-day stay in Brunei Darussalam.
Yesterday, Captain Hirayama paid a
courtesy call on RBN Commander, Pehin Datu Penglima Col. (N) Abdul
Jalil bin Ahmad.
The Japanese captain was accompanied
by three other Japanese captains and Japan's Ambassador to Brunei, Mr.
Hajime Tsujimoto.
