2-Storey House Gutted In Blaze
By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - Seven foreigners and a two-year-old child escaped unhurt when their house located in Kumbang Pasang was destroyed in a blaze yesterday morning.

One of the residents, Sevelyn Castredes, said, "I was sleeping with my child when I heard a cracking noise from one of the rooms.

"When I came out of my room, I saw smoke coming out from the door of the other room.

"I quickly grabbed my handbag and ran outside with my child," he added.

Two fire engines from Bandar Fire Station rushed to the scene to battle the blaze after receiving a call at 11.41 am.

Neighbours from the vicinity also lent a helping hand by trying to douse the fire.

However, the old wooden house was totally gutted within minutes and all the belongings, reportedly worth thousands of dollars, also went up in smoke.

After initial investigations, the Fire and Rescue Department found out that a faulty air-conditioner could be the cause of the blaze.
