Ring! Ring! Mobile Thief's Luck
Runs Out
By Malai FadleyRizal
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A 23-year-old Vietnamese construction worker who
sustained minor injuries when his co-workers discovered that he had
stolen one of their mobile phones was given another slap on the
face this week.
The Bandar Magistrate's Court on
Thursday sentenced Than Van Tuan to two months' jail after he
pleaded guilty to stealing his co-workers' belongings. He had been
working, at a construction site in Kg Rataie, Temburong for about
two months.
According to Deputy Public
Prosecutor Christopher Ng, the defendant sneaked into the workers'
quarters one day in March and took a Nokia N70 mobile phone from a
hag while his co-workers were in the washroom.
On March 19, the defendant stole a
Nokia mobile phone charger, which was inside another co-worker's
hag.
However, it was on March 26 that
the defendant's luck had run out. When the owner of the Nokia N70
dialed his own number using another mobile, he discovered that the
phone was with the defendant.
Several workers ganged up to detain
the defendant before the foreman at the site handed him over to the
police. The court was told that the defendant had sustained minor
injuries and was treated at RIPAS Hospital while in custody.
