Bali
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Director of Co-Curriculum Education Department,
Arsad bin Abd Adis is scheduled to attend the upcoming 66th Asean
Schools Sports Council and ASSC Technical Committee Meeting in Bali,
Indonesia, from June 15 to June 18.
According to the press release,
this year's discussion will be about the planning and organising of
tournaments, courses and conventions that are related to physical
education, sports and recreation.
Arsad will be accompanied by two
education officers - Awg Ajamain bin Hj Othman and Awg Kadir Ghani -
as well as six golf students who will represent the Sultanate at the
Asean School Golf Championship in Bali.
Brunei joined the ASSCA in 1984,
when the country achieved its independence. The Sultante's Ministry
of Education was the Secretariat for the Asean Schools Sports
Council from 2004 to 2005.
ASSCA member countries include
Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam
and the Philippines.
Arsad hoped that Myanmar and Laos
would become members of the ASSC, as this would have a positive
impact on the level of cooperation between Asean countries in terms
of exchanging students and education officers in fields of sports.
Several sports programmes will be
implemented this year such as the 14th Asean Schools Badminton
Championship, which will be held in the Philippines this month, and
the 21st Asean Schools Sepaktakraw Championship that will take place
in Thailand next month.
From July 14 to July 22, the Asean Schools
Hockey Championship will be held in Malaysia.
In August, there will be the 13th
Asean Sports Schools Gymnastics Championship in Malaysia, the Asean
Schools Tennis Championship in Singapore, as well as the 32nd Asean
Schools Track & Field Championship in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the 45th ASSC Management
Committee and 58th ASSC Technical Committee will meet in the
Philippines in November and December. -- Courtesy of Borneo
