Bandar Seri
Begawan - Fourteen US Navy personnel from the USS Patriot
brought smiles to the faces of children with special needs from Pusat
Bahagia in Kg Pulaie yesterday when they visited the centre for
community work.
The group was led by Chief Noel
Carneja, Public Relations Officer of USS Patriot. On hand to welcome
them was Awang Hj Rosmadee bin Hj Mohd Daud, Head of Special Needs
Section, Department of Community Development, Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports. Also present was Dayang Ramia binti Mohammad, Senior
Instructor of the centre.
Awang
Hj Rosmadee delivered a short briefing on the history of the centre,
stating that a total of 106 children with special needs are currently
studying there. He added that there are another three centres
nationwide, with one centre in each district.
According to Chief Noel Carneja, the
visit aimed to contribute to the community as friends and allies. The
ship crew loves children and many more would have liked to come but
couldn't because of their commitment on the ship, he added.
The navy personnel then participated
in various indoor games with children of the centre.
Beside games, the 14 US sailors, who
come from various departments of USS Patriot, also gave away prizes to
winners of each game and presented souvenirs to the children with
special needs.
