Matching A Success, Says Datin Hajah Eda

Seri Begawan – The President of the Brunei Women’s Council,
Datin Hajah Eda, has noted that a three-day business matching session
held in conjunction with the WLN have been very successful in drawing
participants from the APEC economies.
Datin
Hajah Eda disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the APEC WLN 2000
meeting this morning.
According
to Datin Hajah Eda, the positive responses signaled the tremendous
opportunities for Business Corporation and strategic alliance within
the APEC economies.
The
maintenance of the WLN mission, monitoring of the implementation of
its plan of action as well as the advisory roles in future WLN
organizing committees and relevant bodies in APEC will ensure that
there is continuity and follow actions between the WLN Forums.
Issues
covered over the three days, included discussions of maximizing the
human resources to empower women in business to be knowledgeable in
E-business to financing SMEs and to reach out to the borderless global
market.
Datin
Hajah Eda also handed over the APEC WLN chairmanship to the
representative of the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Zang Chin.
China
would be the host of the APEC WLN meeting next year.
The
ceremony also saw the launching of the Women Business Council of
Brunei.
Meanwhile
the APEC WLN Meeting came to a close with several recommendations for
the APEC leaders and ministers.
The
meeting ended this morning at the International Convention Centre.
The
WLN recommends that APEC leaders reveal their membership of the APEC
Business Advisory Council (ABAC) so that women’s participation is
increased.
It
also proposed that each economy tries to ensure that of its three APEC
members as least one is a woman.
Among
other recommendations made to the APEC ministers included an approach
that all women and in particular indigenous races are from rural areas
and women most at risk have equal access to education and
opportunities for skill development.
WLN
also recommends that APEC ministers will formulate policies, which
encourage employers to develop more favourable working terms and
conditions for women and to develop incentives for private sector
investment in women owned SMEs.
