Sounds Warning On Red Tide

Seri Begawan – A communiqué issued by the Department of
Fisheries states that recent information received from the Fisheries
Department of Sabah indicates that the country’s coastal waters
particularly in the Kuala Penu area is still contaminated with red
tide toxins.
In
view of this, the ban of the importation of planktivorous fish and
moluskan shellfish and mussels from East Malaysia is still enforced.
The
public is also informed that waters off Brunei remain free of red
tides.
However,
as an added precautionary measure, the public is advised to completely
remove the internal organs of fish before cooking.
The
public is also advised to abstain from eating planktivorous fish and
moluskan shellfish of unknown origin.
The
Fisheries Department will keep the public informed of further
developments.
