Bandar Seri Begawan – A communiqué issued by the Department of Fisheries states that recent information received from the Fisheries Department of Sabah indicates that the country’s coastal waters particularly in the Kuala Penu area is still contaminated with red tide toxins.

In view of this, the ban of the importation of planktivorous fish and moluskan shellfish and mussels from East Malaysia is still enforced.

The public is also informed that waters off Brunei remain free of red tides.

However, as an added precautionary measure, the public is advised to completely remove the internal organs of fish before cooking.

The public is also advised to abstain from eating planktivorous fish and moluskan shellfish of unknown origin.

The Fisheries Department will keep the public informed of further developments.
