The APEC WLN 2000 meeting highlighted issues raised in the recommendations and resolutions presented during the
meeting, which is hoped to be pursued during the currently ongoing APEC SME Business Forum, said Datin Hjh
Mohd Noor, President of the Council of Women. of Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
Zhang Jing, Director-General of All-China Women's Federation, said despite her inability to converse in English, she
will work just as hard as her Brunei counterparts in chairing the Sixth APEC-WLN Meeting in 2001.
Isabelita Palanca, the Deputy Chairperson CWBC-APEC, highlighted the roles of the Women's Business Council of
APEC in promoting welfare of women in businesses.
Datin Paduka Hayati Pehin Haji Salleh, co-chair of Resolutions and
Recommendations, summarised the key aspect of Declarations and Recommendations forwarded by the APEC-WLN 2000 Meeting. That is for APEC leaders to review
the membership of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) so that women's participation is increased and that
each economy ensures that of its three ABAC members, at least one is a woman.
She also spoke about the eight recommendations made by WLN to APEC Ministers. These include formulation of
policies that encourage employers to develop more favourable working terms and conditions for women as well as
ensuring that all women and in particular, young women, indigenous women, rural women and women most at risk
have equal access to education and opportunities for skills development.
